I think it actually tries rending an image from another program and modifying the image, losing all scalable text which is the focus of my images. The problem is that because *.eps files are written in a computer language of their own, most typical command line image editing software like ImageMagick skips over coding for them because of the complexity involved. If they didn't forget to write it, they did forgot to annotate it! Anyway, it might be that there is another program that can handle it, but so far I'm stumped. However, Apple seems so obsessed with user interfaces that it seems that they forgot to write a command line interface for the program Preview.

Mac OS might be appropriate if this was an app that remained from classic Mac OS, but its not: it only ever ran on OS X. OS X is the current name for the operating system, and its well-known. I mean, I already have scripts that make the files in the first place, so it's very simple to modify those scripts slightly to run a command that uses the files and renames their output.
